Software Developer-Contractor VS Employee

Since I have been self-employed for about 15 years, I wonder what will be best for me transitioning into software development, being a contractor or employee. This could be a challenging decision since the opportunities for a junior developer are not as plentiful as a seasoned developer.

My initial thoughts are that being willing to take on the responsibilities of managing my own affairs such as taxes, insurance and expenses will be a benefit both to an employer and myself. This will relieve the employer of the burden of having to match social security and provide medical insurance, unemployment, and workman’s compensation, as well as give me the opportunity to maximize every incoming dollar through write-offs associated with work related costs.

This will be an ongoing discussion, so please leave a comment. Below are some related links to refer to.
